BEAUTY aka STRAWBERRY – A1045737

*** GONE 08/28/15 *** BEAUTY—KITTY COVER GIRL RETURNED DUE TO “PETS CONFLICT” NEEDS NEW FRIEND! Sad sigh! Doesn’t one year old Beauty look like she belongs on the cover of Cat Fancy magazine? Not only is this great girl purrfectly healthy, she is already spayed and enjoys petting and handling. She was returned after just two weeks before she and the resident feline weren’t a good match. She needs a patient new owner who would be willing to give her time to acclimate. From her previous behavior eval, she scored an awesome average rating but since returning to the shelter, she is tense and frightened. Who can blame her? Now her precious life is in peril and she will become another sad ACC stat when tomorrow afternoon rolls around if we don’t advocate for her tonight. Won’t you please offer Beauty a new leash on life? She will certainly return to her usual sweet self once she feels safe and secure. Please reserve our kitty cover girl online or contact a NH rescue for help with transportation. Let’s not let another healthy, adoptable cat be a victim of a broken shelter system. Won’t you please be Beauty’s rescue angel? Save a life. Make a difference.

08/22/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/22/15 19:06hrs Beauty was cared for by her owner for the past two weeks but she is being surrendered because she doesn’t get along with the resident cat. SOCIAL LIFE & PERSONALITY Beauty is described as an independent and fearful. She allows petting for short periods of time and will either run off or swipe at her owner when she had enough. She lived with an 8 year old child and a resident female cat. She displayed aggressive behavior towards the resident cat when they were near each other. She would hiss and run off. BEHAVIOR Beauty allows petting but will struggle or nip when she is picked up. On one occasion while Beauty was being petted on her head, she turned and softly bit her owner on the hand without drawing blood, and then ran off. She likes to hide especially under the bed. She is litterbox trained and accustomed to using an uncovered litter box. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Beauty is a fearful cat that needs a lot of time to warm up to her family. She doesn’t play with cat toys or balls but likes using her owner’s wooden furniture as a scratching post. She is accustomed to eating Science Diet dry cat food. DURING INTAKE Beauty was calm in her carrier. She would approach the Admissions Counselor hand and sniff. She was collared and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.

08/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Beauty was at the front, calm and relaxed. She reaches out with her paws, tries to grab the assessor vigorously and starts to growl when softly spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Beauty becomes alert. Reaction to touch: Beauty sniffs the assessor’s hand, but start to grumble again. She swats at the hand multiple times (not hard) and also nips while grumbling. As per previous owner, Beauty is described as independent and fearful. She allows petting for short periods of time, and will either run away or swipe at the owner when she has had enough. She has lived with an 8 year old child and another female cat. She displayed aggressive behaviors towards the other cat when they were near each other. She allows petting, but will struggle or nip when she is picked up. Sometimes she would turn around and softly nip on the hand during petting, and then run off. She hides under the bed often and needs a lot of time to warm up to her family. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Initially Beauty solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to nip and swat gently at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Beauty becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. Due to her tendency to nip and swipe to show she’s had enough, we feel that this cat will do best in a home without children.
