***GONE 05/20/15*** PURRING, HEADBUTTING TUXIE KITTEN CHARMER WITH A LOVING VOLUNTEER PLEA WILL DIE BECAUSE HE SNEEZED – PLEASE GRANT SAPPHIRE A DEATH ROW PARDON!!! Darling tuxie kitten SAPPHIE, just 8 months old, has the most unusual coloring – he’s a gray and black tuxedo laddie! This sweet kitten quickly caught the eye of an ACC volunteer, who writes: “Sapphire, cute as a button he is! He is a young lad that was found in the basement of an apartment complex, awaiting his rescuer to save him from the shadows of the dark, cold enclosure. Sapphire may be a bit shy when first meeting you, but will warm up in no time for a good petting. Youngster, at only 9 months old he has only ever known our shelter to provide him with some TLC. Sapphire would do best in a family that has had experiences with cats in their home before, and can give him the proper loving attention this little guy may need. Come on down to our Manhattan shelter to meet Sapphire today!” Sapphire earned a very good EXPERIENCE behavior rating for his PURRING and his HEADBUTTS. But Sapphire will DIE at NOON TOMORROW, another INNOCENT VICTIM of the notorious ACC kitty cold and a badly broken shelter system! Please start RIGHT NOW to apply to foster or adopt adorable tuxie kitten SAPPHIRE! If you can’t save SAPPHIRE yourself, please SHARE his sad story and PLEDGE for his rescue!

05/07/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/07/15 15:50 Sapphire was found in a basement along with two other cats. The finder could not bring him in so he sent a friend. She brought them in for him. During intake, Sapphire fled from his enclosure and had to be captured with a freeman net. He meowed very loudly. Due to the nature of the situation, he did not allow, collaring, petting, scanning, or pictures.

05/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Sapphire was calm, relaxed, and friendly at the front. When softly spoken to, he meows softly and tries to sniff the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Sapphire retreats to the back, but comes to the front again. Reaction to touch: Sapphire was a bit hesitant at first, but warms up quickly when approached slowly. He head-butts vigorously and may back away momentarily, but meows and purrs loudly during interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Sapphire becomes tense and shifts away. Note: Sapphire was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He fled upon intake and tried to flee during his initial medical exam due to fear. However, during the interaction with the assessor, he remained in place and interacted with the assessor without trying to flee. Behavior Determination: Experience Sapphire tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
