09/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Umberto was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was brought in with numerous other cats and was nervous upon intake. He was slightly difficult to handle due to the fact that she was brought in with multiple cats in a large carrier, but allowed all handling during his initial medical exam despite his nervousness. Please note that Umberto is being treated for conjunctivitis at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Reaction to Assessor: Umberto was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Umberto looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Umberto remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Umberto was hesitant of touch and shifts away from the assessor’s hand. He allows petting on his head and body, but continuously tries to avoid interaction. When the assessor stops petting him, he starts to blink slowly and lip licks. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Umberto tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
