SAFE 04/09/15 SCARLETT – A1032229 – Manhattan, NY
4-10-2015
Beautiful 5-month old SCARLETT needs your love! This beauty is a healthy baby at 5.0 pounds and was brought to NYC animal control as a stray. She is very stressed in the shelter environment and although she allowed some petting and handling, she is scared and needs the patience and love she deserves. Judging by her intake notes, she is not deserving of the “New Hope Only” rating she has received! Apply to adopt or foster SCARLETT immediately as she does not have much time left! If you cannot adopt, please share her picture and story in the hopes that someone can save her life- she deserves better than to be dumped by humans at a noisy and crowded shelter where she cannot get the affection or attention she needs! PLEASE help SCARLETT to love again!

04/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Scarlett comes to the front and is calm and relaxed. When softly spoken to, she looks attentively at the assessor and tries to sniff. Reaction to cage door opening: Scarlett becomes alert, but remains soft. Reaction to touch: Scarlett sniffs the assessor’s hand, but tries to avoid touch. She moves away slowly, puts her paw onto the hand, and pushes the hand down to stop touch. When continuing the attempt to touch her, she grabs the assessor’s hand with both paws and nips on the hand gently, and then retreats to the back. The behavior department recommends a slow approach when interacting with her. Note: Scarlett was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. The finder was able to pick her up and bring her into the care center. She was, however, difficult to handle during her initial medical exam; she was hissing and spitting even when someone did not approach her directly. Behavior Determination: NH ONLY Scarlett is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, nip, may be fearful of the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
