* SAFE 04/23/15 * OWNER HAD “NO TIME” FOR MAGNIFICENT MACKIE….VISION IMPAIRED AND 16 YEARS YOUNG…..A staff member writes: Mackie is a senior with tons of love to give, and being 16 isn’t stopping this handsome guy from being someone’s wonderful new companion. This senior kitty would love a home full of warm laps and plenty of naps where he can doze away his golden years. Though he was a little nervous when he first came to AC&C, Mackie has really opened up and showed us that oldies are still goodies. He will purr and rub on anyone who comes to give him some love. Will you be the one to open up your heart to this wonderful old fellow? A volunteer writes: Super senior alert! The great grandpa of the adoption hall is here. Hoping to retire to a nice, comfortable, safe home to ride out his golden years he waits and wonders who will notice him. Take notice all ye cat lovers and meet Mackie. Sweet as sugar and loving affection and attention, he will make a great lap companion. Make him an offer he can’t refuse.

04/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Mackie was calm and relaxed upon approach. When softly spoken to, he tries to sniff the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Mackie remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Mackie was hesitant of touch at first, but warms up and begins to purr. After a little while, he head-butts the assessor’s hand lightly. Reaction to being picked up: Mackie remains calm and allows handling. As per previous owner, Mackie has lived with 3 adults for his whole life. They said he loves to play, enjoys petting, uses a scratch post, loves to cuddle and be picked up, but can be shy and needs time to warm up to people. They also reported him to having not used the litter box in the past 2 months, but we have no additional details on the context of the behavior. Our medical team has noticed his eyes are cloudy in coloration, which may mean he has trouble seeing, and therefore prevent him from using the litter box. We advise any potential adopter to be prepared for this behavior, and prepared to manage it if it appears in the future home. Methods of managing and attempting to modify this behavior can be discussed with the Adoption Counselors. Behavior Determination: Average Mackie interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
