06/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nessa came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home or to her previous living situation. She has avoided human contact and has been difficult to handle since arriving at the care center. She has remained in her cat den and cannot be coaxed out. She does allow minimal touch but is clearly highly uncomfortable with interaction. Reaction to assessor: Nessa is in her cat den. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains in her den. Reaction to touch: When approached in her cat den, Nessa retreats to the back, tense, with dilated pupils and lowered ear position. She allows a very gentle touch through the door but did not relax, engage, or solicit attention. Placement determination: New Hope Only While Nessa has allowed some touch without striking, she appears to be undersocialized and highly fearful of human interaction. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive experiences to build Nessa’s trust in humans, and can provide a home in which Nessa will be comfortable and can warm up to at her own pace.
