***SAFE 09/21/15***TERRIFIC TABBY RETURNED TO SHELTER NEEDS RESCUE ANGEL! Sad sigh! Adorable one and a half year old Jax is a purrfectly healthy, neutered, friendly, playful and affectionate kitty who was returned to the shelter when his family moved and decided not to take him along. According to his former owner, he loves to cuddle, tolerates all petting and loves belly rubs. Not sure why people choose to move to places that don’t allow their furry family members—who get tossed aside like yesterday’s trash. When will people learn that precious pets like Jax are supposed to be furever friends and not abandoned like a worn piece of clothing? Naturally, Jax was a little grumpy during intake but still scored a respectable experienced no kids rating. He is definitely the kind of kitty who will settle in just fine once he is in a new, loving home. Please reserve Jax online tonight or let a rescue know if you can foster or adopt. Transportation is available if you live within a few hours of NYC (to adopt) and fosters should be no more than about an hour away from NYC. Let’s turn things around for this sweet, highly adoptable pet before the ACC makes him another sad stat. Make the call for Jax, the terrific tabby. Save a life. Make a difference.

09/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Jax is shy around strangers and children. He allows all petting, likes to cuddle, and loves belly rubs. He was described as friendly, playful, and affectionate with his family. He follows the owner around in the house and meows when he’s hungry. Reaction to assessor: Jax slowly comes to the front and seems focused on stimuli going on in the room. Reaction when softly spoken to: Jax attempts to sniff the assessor, but still seems wary of the room. Reaction to cage door opening: Jax becomes alert. Reaction to touch: Jax sniffs the assessor’s hand and allows gentle petting. He twitches when touched on his body and he continues to stare out into the room, ignoring the assessor throughout the interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Jax becomes antsy and jumps away. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Jax tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
