09/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Jasper has been around children but tends to keep to himself and hides. He doesn’t interact and hides when around other cats as well. He was kept indoors and is litter box trained. He has a very low activity level and was described as affectionate, relaxed, and quiet. The owner reports that Jasper has recently had a behavior change when he moved in with his girlfriend. Jasper has been growling and wasn’t acting like his normal self. Reaction to Assessor: Jasper was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Jasper stretches and shifts his position. Reaction to cage door opening: Jasper remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Jasper was a bit hesitant, but warms up with touch. He rolls onto his side and rubs his cheeks onto the assessor. He may get over-aroused during the interaction; his tail starts to flick and he hisses and grabs the assessor’s hand with his paws and tries to nip. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Jasper is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Jasper becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
