S/O: Driver brought kitten in, informed us of serious leg injury. Kitten’s right forelimb was literally only attached by a thin piece of [necrotic] skin. The amputation appears to be at the elbow joint and surprisingly the wound looks pretty clean (no signs of infection), there is mild bruising at the end of the humerus. Kitten is BAR, does not react to wound be palpated. BCS 4-5/9. Blepharospasm, chemosis and mucoid discharge OU. Ears, nose and throat wnl. Heart/lungs auscult wnl. Abdomen is soft and non-painful. Skin/coat wnl.
A: Kitten sustained severe injury to right forelimb causing amputation at the elbow joint.
P: Removed distal limb by cutting thin piece of skin (kitten did not even react); plan to sedate to flush wound and close with drain in place. Start on Clavamox and buprenorphine. Also start on Erythromycin. Gave 1st FVRCP. Applied Revolution for kittens <5lbs.
