10/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amber was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was tense upon intake and would hiss and growl when the admission counselor attempts to pet her. She was drooling and heavily panting. She became fractious during her initial medical exam and was difficult to handle. Reaction to Assessor: Amber does not come to the front but is neutral inside her cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Amber blinks slowly at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Amber becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Amber hisses and shifts away from the assessor’s hand. She retreats to the corner of the cage and lifts her paw up to prepare to swat. Placement Determination: New Hope Only Amber is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
