***SAFE 05/21/15*** PRETTY PUFF HAS BEEN RETURNED TWICE – SHE HAS SOME MEDICAL ISSUES AND OWNER IS NOW BETWEEN HOUSES – PLEASE GIVE THIS GIRL A CHANCE TO GET VET HELP AND A HOME! Puff is a 5 year old spayed siamese who has a mammary tumor and other issues. Her owner said she also is having litterbox issues which many or may not be the cat’s fault as it could be medically related. PUFF is in need of a foster or adopter to get her the vet help she needs as her owner said she cannot afford it. PUFF was EXPERIENCE rated but she did allow petting and handling and even rubbed the assessor’s hand. GIVE PUFF A DEATH ROW PARDON AND A NEW LEASH ON LIFE TONIGHT – CONTACT A RESCUE TO FOSTER OR ADOPT NOW.

05/14/15 15:44 Basic Information Puff is a 5-year old cat that was brought into the shelter as a return. Owner stated that she was currently between houses and didnt have anywhere to take Puff. She also stated that she doesnt have anyone to take her, and can not afford boarding services Social life and Personality: According to owner she is fearful when around children (was around 7 and 8 year olds) and would not play. She was not around other cats or dogs so her behaviors are unknown. She is not litter box trained, urinating and defecating outside the litter box. She has been kept indoors only, has a medium level of energy, and was described as affectionate, independent, and quiet. Behavior: She has never bitten but has scratched someone before (not in the last 2 weeks). She is afraid when you go to pick her up and is not bothered when placed into a carrier. She will defecate daily outside the litter box but there was no medical reason for it. New Family Info: She has been given all types of litter in both a covered and uncovered box but still will defecate outside the box. She plays with balls, catnip, and string. She is sued to both wet and dry food. Behavior During Intake Puff was afraid during intake. He attempted to hide inside of carrier, and was facing the opposite direction. He did not accept food. Although afraid, Puff showed no signs of aggression during intake,

05/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Puff was at the front and was calm, relaxed, and friendly. When softly spoken to, she attempts to sniff the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Puff retreats to the back, but looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes. Reaction to touch: Puff was hesitant of touch, but allows stroke when you approach her slowly. She warms up and lightly rubs her head against the assessor’s hand. She pokes her head out with interest, but still seems shy. As per previous owner, Puff is fearful around children and shows no interest in playing with them. She has a medium level of energy, and was described as affectionate, independent, and quiet. However, her previous owner does note one major concern: Puff urinates and defecates outside of the litter box without medical reason. She has been given all types of litter in both a covered and uncovered box, but will still defecate outside the box. We advise any potential adopter to be prepared for this behavior, and prepared manage it if it appears in a future home. Methods of managing and attempting to modify this behavior can be discussed with the Adoption Counselors. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Puff tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
