08/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to Assessor: Candy was calm and relaxed upon approach. She comes to the front and head-butts the cage door when softly spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Candy becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Candy hisses at the assessor’s hand, but sniffs it and head-butts it after. She appreciates petting for a moment, but her body stiffens and watches the assessor’s hand. Her tail starts to sway strongly from side to side and she strikes at the assessor’s hand. As per previous owner, Candy is tolerant and respectful when she is around children. She doesn’t interact with them much, but she will interact with adults in a gentle and tolerant manner. She has not been socialized with dogs or other cats, but she has been described as being playful, confident, mellow, friendly, affectionate, quiet, and independent. She can be shy around someone new, but will eventually relax in their company. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Candy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, bite, she is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
