WASHINGTON – A1054107
Gone 11-6-2015 Manhattan
*** GONE 11/06/15 *** WASHINGTON has it all! Good looks, a friendly personality and an elegant soft coat! This 1 year old male was found on the streets with his pal, MEOW, and brought to the finder’s home. Unfortunately because the finder had too many pets, WASHINGTON and his best buddy were brought to the shelter, with a precarious fate. TOMORROW this gorgeous guy will be killed if he’s not rescued. WASHINGTON played exhuberantly with adults and children and is relaxed, friendly, playful, affectionate and tolerant. A perfect little cat companion for any home!! A volunteer writes: “Hi, everyone! My name is Washington. I might not be a president, but I would love an Oval Office to call my own. Well, maybe just a regular home would be good, too! I’m a friendly guy, and I love hanging out with my human friends. I’d love to be a furry companion. Will you help me find my forever home?” WASHINGTON will be your best pal! Please open your heart and home to WASHINGTON today!!!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Washington was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The finder found him about a week ago and reports that he is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He lived with children ages 2 and older and was relaxed, affectionate, and tolerant with them. He plays exuberantly with adults and children. He was relaxed, affectionate, tolerant, and played exuberantly with the female cat in the home, but would usually keep a distance from the other male cat. He would sometimes growl and wrestle with the male cat, but doesn’t break skin. He doesn’t mind being bathed, picked up, or held. He was described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and talkative with a high energy level. Reaction to assessor: Washington was calm and relaxed by the front. Reaction when softly spoken to: Washington head-butts and solicits attention by rubbing on the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Washington remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Washington head-butts, begins to purr, and rubs his cheeks on the assessor. Reaction to being picked up: Washington remains calm and allows handling. Note: Washington remains social and easy to handle with his human care takers, but please be aware that he may re-direct some stress when a neighboring cat is hissing, swatting, and yowling. He begins to hiss and may swat during the interaction with staff as a result of the environmental stimulation. When the neigboring cat stops hissing and growling, he begins to relax and will solicit attention again when approached. Behavior Determination: Average Washington interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We are basing the determination primarily on what was seen during the assessment, prior to his reaction to his feline neighbor. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
