***GONE 07/30/15*** PERFECTLY HEALTHY LOVELY GIRL WAS DUMPED AFTER JUST 2 WEEKS WITH HER OLD OWNER AND NOW SHE WILL DIE DUE TO HER FEAR – PLEASE GRANT VIOLA A DEATH ROW PARDON!!! Exquisitely beautiful six-year-old brown tabby and white girl VIOLA entered the kill-happy ACC with a HEARTBREAKING back story: “Viola’s family got her from her previous owner 2 weeks ago and surrendered her due to behavior. Viola is fearful and attempts to hide from new people. If approached, she growls. If touched, picked up, handled, etc., she may scratch or bite.” Two weeks is NOT LONG ENOUGH for a cat to settle into a new home, ESPECIALLY an older girl such as Viola! And they didn’t even TRY to introduce her properly to the other cat! But the heartless ACC has WRITTEN HER OFF as a New Hope Only behavior problem, to be “CURED” via lethal injection at noon tomorrow, despite the fact that this GORGEOUS girl is PERFECTLY HEALTHY! The ACC claims that they NEVER kill healthy cats, but poor Viola is PROOF that they DO INDEED KILL THEM. Please open your heart and home to this betrayed beauty. Start RIGHT NOW to apply to foster or adopt beautiful, scared girl VIOLA from the approved New Hope rescue groups! If you can’t save VIOLA yourself, please SHARE her sad story and PLEDGE for her rescue!

07/21/15 19:56 BASIC INFO Viola’s family got her from her previous owner 2 weeks ago and surrendered her due to behavior (more info. below). SOCIALIZATION Viola is fearful and attempts to hide from new people. If approached, she growls. If touched, picked up, handled, etc., she may scratch or bite. She scratched and bit a friend of her owners while he put her in a carrier 2 weeks ago. Three days ago, she was hiding while her owner approached and extended his hand. She leaned in, so he pet her. She struck and bit his forearm leaving small scratch marks. There was another cat in the home. They were separated by a baby gate. She hissed at the other cat through the gate. BEHAVIOR Viola bites and scratches if someone tries to pick up/hold her, put her in a carrier, or disturbs her while she’s hiding. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Viola’s family describes her as fearful, quiet, independent, and low energy. She spends all of her time hiding in the corner behind a bike and pipes. She comes out to eat and go potty when there aren’t any people around. She lived inside and ate dry food. She used her hooded litterbox with clumping litter and didn’t have accidents. INTAKE Viola was tense but allowed us to pick her up, scan her (-), and put her in a kennel. She retreated and got into her litterbox with her face lowered. She allowed us to photograph her and pet her a little. After a few seconds of petting, she hissed.

07/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Viola was resting inside her cage upon approach. She looks around when softly spoken to, but avoids eye contact. Reaction to cage door opening: Viola remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Viola allows brief touch on her head and remains in place, but pats the hand gently without nails when she wants the assessor to stop. When trying to pet her again, she pats it again, but harder. As per previous owner, Viola is fearful and attempts to hide from new people. She growls when approached and may scratch or bite if touched, picked up, or handled. She was described as fearful, quiet, and independent with a low energy level. She spends a lot of time hiding and only comes out to eat and potty when no one is around. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Viola is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate all petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
