06/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Velvet’s former owner stated he has never been around children or dogs, but is reactive towards the other cat in his previous home. Velvet is reported to show destructive behavior in the home, such as clawing the furniture around the house. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Velvet will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so Velvet can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. Reaction to assessor: Velvet looks neutral in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Velvet remains crouched down on his cage bedding, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: While Velvet accepts the stroke, he stands with tail slightly down and focuses on sudden noises. After he began to head-butt the assessor’s hand and purr in place. Placement determination: Experience Velvet tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
