SAFE 04/13/15 – AZALEA – A1032348 – MANHATTAN, NY
4-13-2015
FIVE MONTH OLD AZALEA IS A FLOWER WHO NEEDS A GARDEN TO GROW IN, NOT TO BE PLUCKED FROM LIFE AT SUCH AN EARLY AGE! Azalea was found in a hallway with another kitten, who was not there when Azalea was cornered and put into a cat carrier only to be dumped at the kill happy shelter. Azalea was easy to handle and didn’t resist this but sadly once a kitten is in the shelter, it is inevitable that they catch a cold, and once they sneeze it’s off to the euth list. Azalea deserves to live and have a furever home. Can you be the rescue angel for her tonight? PLEASE CONTACT A RESCUE TO PULL AZALEA TO SAFETY NOW!

04/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/06/15 15:09 Azalea’s finder saw her and another kitten in the hallway of her building for about 3 days. Today, she saw only Azalea. Azalea retreated to a corner and allowed her to pick her up and put her in a carrier. She didn’t resist or vocalize. Azalea was lying down facing the back of the carrier, tense with wide eyes, with her feet tucked under her. She allowed me to scan, pet, collar, pick up, take in and out of carriers, and position her for pictures. She was very easy to handle and didn’t resist, retreat, or vocalize. On the counter, she sat curled up against the wall where I set her down. She looked around a little but didn’t move much otherwise. She went into the new carrier and curled up, facing the back again.

04/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Azalea came to us as a stray on 4/06/15. Upon intake it was reported that Azalea had tense body language in her carrier with wide eyes. She did allow all handling upon entry into the shelter, and did not resist, retreat or vocalize. Azalea could be seen in her kennel with neutral body language when approaching her kennel. She retreated to the back of the kennel when the assessor opened the cage door. Azalea allowed the assessor to touch and pet her a few time before becoming quickly agitated and hissing at the assessor. Azalea should be interacted with slowly, and she should be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. The behavior department believes that Azalea would do best in an experienced home, where she will be given time to acclimate to her new environment, and time to adjust to her new family. Reaction to assessor: Does not come to the front but remains neutral (2) When spoken to quietly: Does not come to the front but remains neutral (2) Reaction to cage door opening: Retreats (3) Reaction to touch: Allows the touch, but has stiff body language, and hisses when agitated (3).
