11/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thamara was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. The finder found her sitting on the window sill of her building. She allowed herself to be removed from the carrier upon intake, but hissed when handling was attempted. She was very fearful during her initial medical exam, and will hiss and swat when the staff got too close. Reaction to Assessor: Thamara was calm and relaxed in her cage upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Thamara lowers her eyes and averts her gaze from the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Thamara becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Thamara hisses and spits before the hand reaches her and shifts away from touch. She grumbles after and slowly blinks. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Thamara is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
