SAFE 04/08/15- TABBERS – A1032056 – BROOKLYN, NY

SWEET BUT SCARED TABBY KITTEN NEEDS YOU! Tabbers is a four month old grey tabby kitten who desperately needs her rescue angel tonight. Tabbers was found by someone who was kind enough to take her in, help her acclimate to being an indoor kitty, easily gave her a bath and noted that she got along with the resident cat but then for some stupid reason proceeded to dump her at the kill-happy shelter. And they wonder why this poor girl was grumpy at intake? Tabbers is naturally frightened at the shelter but still scored a respectable experienced no kids rating. If you can be this little girl’s rescue angel, please reserve her online or contact a NH rescue for transportation assistance. Tabbers deserves the chance to grow up and have a happy life. Please be THE ONE that makes that possible.

04/03/15 12:25 Tabbers is kitten estimated to be around 4 months of age. When she was found she was at first agitated and hissed at the finder. After some time, the finder was able to catch and bring her in to the home. The finder stated she was easily bathed and that Tabbers got along with the cat in the home even allowing the other can to clean her. Tabbers allowed the counselor to scan for a chip and transfer her from one carrier to another with ease. Tabbers stayed to the back of the second carrier and when the counselor tried to collar her she became fearful and leaned backwards to avoid the collar and hissed. The counselor was not able to collar her at intake.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tabbers came to us as a stray on 4/3/15. The finder of Tabbers reported that when Tabbers was found she was agitated with the finder and hissed at the finder. After some time the finder was able to catch Tabbers and bring her into the home. The finder stated that Tabbers was easy to bathe and seemed to get along with her other cat in the home. Upon intake Tabbers allowed the admissions counselor to handle her and transfer her into a different carrier. Though once in the other carrier Tabbers retreated to the back of the carrier and hissed at the counselor. Tabbers appeared a bit fearful and nervous when first meeting the assessor. She immediately attempted to hide from the assessor and became a bit stiff and alert when the kennel door was open. Tabbers did not allow the assessor to touch her and growled and hissed at the assessor when the assessor attempted to do so. The behavior department feels that Tabbers would do best in an experienced home without children, where she can be given time to adjust to her new environment and provided with positive experiences. Reaction to assessor: Attempts to hide when you approach (3) When spoken to quietly: continues to hide. (3) Reaction to cage door opening: Becomes stiff, alert, and retreats. Cat’s ears are flat and eyes are dilated. (3) Reaction to touch: Growls and hisses at you. (3) Reaction to being picked up: Not attempted during assessment.
