03/27/15 14:22 Swirl is a brown and gray cat that is estimated to be around 1 years old. At intake she stayed quietly in the box carrier and allowed the Admin. Counselor to collar her, scan for a microchip, and allowed pets and ear scratches. She eventually jumped out and tried to flee. She became very fractious when she couldn't find an exit. Cat was able to be caught after several minutes by going real slow and getting down to the cats level. She allowed petting once she calmed down and an Animal Care Office was able to pick her up and place her in a carrier.WEB MEMO

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Notes: Swirl was brought to the shelter as a stray so we don't have any behavioral history previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment she was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Retreats as I started to get closer but after a steady low approach using soft voices she relaxed a little and I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. I was also able to pick her up and although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Reaction to assessor: does not come to front but remains neutral (2) When spoken quietly: does not come to front but remains neutral (2) Reaction to door cage opening: remains motionless (2) Reaction to touch: Tries to aviod being touched (2) Reaction to toy or novel object: retreats (3) Try picking cat up: tolerant of this type of handling but tense.
