STRAY – STRAY WAIT, NO HOLD Reason STRAY

Medical Behavior Evaluation GREEN
Medical Summary S/O: Patient presented in lateral recumbency, dull. Stray brought in by driver. mm – pink, tacky, CRT = 2 sec hydration = approx. 10% dehydrated Integ = dirty, unkempt coat. Dried ocular discharge around OD. Dirty paws x 4 EENT = Upon cleaning crust off of OD, large amount of purulent, malodorous discharge oozed from the orbit. No globe present however several chunks of tan and pink tissue within orbit. Lateral canthus appears to have a laceration extending it. OS is wnl; nnd, oligodontia with one yellow stained pre-molar on left upper arcade, other teeth are resorbed; mild ceruminous discharge AU H/L: nma, bradycardic (120 bpm); difficult to auscult due to referred upper airway noise. No obvious crackles/wheezes; RR = 24 bpm Abdomen: snp, loops of intestines palpable. GU: Female, no MGTs CNS = dull/depressed mentation. No obvious cranial nerve abnormalities MS = BCS = 2/9; amb x 4 for short duration. Patient falls over to the left after taking a few steps. Very weak. No obvious fractures/lamenesses noted. back legs feel stronger than front. A: 1. Hypothermic – r/o infectious vs. environmental 2. Ruptured globe – r/o trauma vs. infectious 3. Dehydration – r/o pre-renal (most likely) vs. renal vs. post-renal Prognosis: Guarded P: 1. Flushed out eye copiously with Sterile saline, using medium pressure. Applied erythromycin, OD. 2. Gave 0.03 mg/kg (0.17 mL) Buprenex SQ 3. Give convenia – 0.28 mL SQ once 4. Apply heating pad + warm water gloves. Recheck temperature in 2 hours 5. Inform New Hope of case – recommend full blood work, enucleation, OD; IV fluid therapy – place deadline of 7 PM 6. Negative for FeLV/FIV 7. OFfered food, patient not interested.
