SMOKIE – A1040194
6-21-2015 Manhattan
***GONE 06/21/2015*** SMOKIE was brought into the care center after his person decided she couldn’t take care of him anymore. Apparently she didn’t do much for him from the start, SMOKIE isn’t neutered and has never been to a vet….but has lived with a little girl and been just fine. However ACC has decided because he didn’t like the ASSESSOR touching his back and tail that he should not live with children. Most cats are’t their most at ease in a scary place like ACC and SMOKIE did just fine before htat. SMOKIE was a ‘gift’ to his person, and this is a good reason never to give a living creature as a gift-for now the only ‘gift’ SMOKIE will get is in staying alive-will you help him to live by offering to foster him? Sharing your home with him til he finds his own? Or will you, perhaps sore from losing a furr, but wanting to help another say ‘yes, I will take SMOKIE’. SMOKIE is a gentlle boy who needs you very much tonight. His life is on the line. SAVE SMOKIE TONIGHT!!! HE DOES NOT HAVE ANOTHER NIGHT WITHOUT YOUR HELP!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
The former owner states that around strangers Smokie is shy for minutes, but when he warms up to you he is friendly. Smokie has been around a child age 11 yrs. old, he is respectful but does not really play with her. However, around adults he can play a little rough at times. Also, describes Smokie as friendly, confident cat with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Smokie looks neutral in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Smokie remains lying down on his cage bedding, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Smokie accepts the stroke on the head and body, but along her tail she becomes agitated with the touch. He then hisses and attempts to swat at the assessor’s hand to stop the petting. Placement determination: Experience / no child Smokie tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
