** SAFE 12/30/15 ** Handsome SMOKEY finds himself on the euth list at the ACC, because someone found him in the 11233 zip code, and brought him into the shelter. The ACC has done nothing but slap him with an EXPNOCHILD rating and warehouse him in a cage, so tonight is the first—and last—time anyone will be concentrating on trying to find him a home. There are steep odds against SMOKEY getting out of the shelter alive, but those odds are there to be beaten. Please advocate strongly for SMOKEY tonight!

12/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Smokey was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The finder reported he was not easy to handle. He became defensive during his initial medical exam and resisted handling. Reaction to Assessor: Smokey was inside a hidey den upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Smokey does not respond. Reaction to cage door opening: Smokey remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Smokey hisses when the assessor extends her hand, but he allows brief touch. He shifts away from petting, lip licks, and continues to hiss. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Smokey tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
