Behavior 4/12
Reaction to assessor: Shmi was calm, relaxed, and friendly upon approach. When softly spoken to, he looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes and tries to sniff.
Reaction to cage door opening: Shmi comes to the front and remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Shmi remains in place for petting, begins to purr, and twirls around in a circle.
Reaction to being picked up: Shmi remains calm and allows handling.
Note: Shmi was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The finders were able to pick him up and place him into a carrier, and reported no signs of aggression. He was fearful upon intake and was reluctant to come out of the carrier, but allowed handling. Although he was nervous during his initial medical exam, he also sought out attention.
Behavior Determination: Average
Shmi has acclimated well into the care center environment. He interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
A volunteer writes:
This beautiful young man called out to me without a meow. He is quiet, gentle, loving, and snuggly. I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something really special about Shmi. See if you can figure out what it is, you’ll be very happy if you do.
