***PASSED AWAY 05/29/15*** “VERY FRIENDLY AND AFFECTIONATE” RUSSIAN BLUE CHARMER HAS A LOVELY VOLUNTEER PLEA AND A GREAT BEHAVIOR RATING, BUT THE ACC WILL KILL HIM ANYWAY – PLEASE GRANT SHADOW A DEATH ROW PARDON!!! Handsome plush-velvet Russian Blue boy SHADOW, 7 years young, was BETRAYED by his old owner, who dumped Shadow into the kill-happy ACC due to PET HEALTH. Shadow quickly caught the eye of an ACC volunteer, who lovingly writes: “In the shadows you will find him. He is shy and pensive and wonders what comes next. Hopefully a great person can offer him a great safe happy home. This sweetheart is gentle and will come out of the shadows with a little coaxing once he feels comfortable. He is truly beautiful and has so much to offer. Give him a chance to shine like the sun on a glorious day.” At home, Shadow was described as “CALM, SMART, VERY FRIENDLY, and AFFECTIONATE”. He earned a very good EXPERIENCE behavior rating even in the scary shelter. HIs old owner claimed he was having litter box issues, but NEVER TOOK HIM TO THE VET! Poor Shadow might need a change to a wet diet, or more frequent cleaning of the litter box; still, this “problem” SHOULD NOT RESULT IN A DEATH SENTENCE! But the ACC will KILL this gorgeous guy at noon tomorrow. Please don’t let them silence his purrs forever. Start RIGHT NOW to apply to foster or adopt charming SHADOW! If you can’t save SHADOW yourself, please SHARE his sad story and PLEDGE for his rescue!

05/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Shadow was calm and relaxed upon approach. When softly spoken to, he remains lying down and looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes, but with ears tilted sideways. Reaction to cage door opening: Shadow remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Shadow remains in place and allows all touch, but still seems unsure with tilted ears. He leans light onto the assessor’s hand eventually and closes his eyes. Reaction to being picked up: Shadow remains soft and allows handling. As per previous owner, Shadow has a medium activity level and is very friendly and affectionate. He is relaxed around children and plays gently with them. He was tolerant around cats, but wasn’t too playful. However, his previous owner does note one concern: Shadow has not been using the litter box for the past few months. They have not consulted a veterinarian or trainer. We advise any potential adopter to be prepared for this behavior, and prepared manage it if it appears in a future home. Methods of managing and attempting to modify this behavior can be discussed with the Adoption Counselors. Behavior Determination: Experience Shadow tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
