***GONE 07/05/15*** SEBASTIAN IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY BUT WILL DIE BECAUSE OF HIS FEAR!!! SEBASTIAN was dumped in the shelter because his owner said he bit him and scratched a grandchild. SEBASTIAN was said to not like children and would do best in an adult only home. He has lived with his owner for 3 of his 4 years. Sadly, after this one incident, SEBASTIAN got the boot and is also NEW HOPE rated because he is now scared to death here. IF YOU CAN HELP THIS 4 YEAR OLD NEUTERED BOY, CATS DO THINGS FOR A REASON AND MAYBE THIS KITTY WAS TORMENTED BY KIDS BEFORE. GIVE HIM A CHANCE AND CONTACT A RESCUE NOW TO SAVE HIM.

06/22/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
Basic Information Sebastian is a white and gray neutered domestic short haired cat, approximately 4 years old who came into ACC after he bit his owner two days ago and scratched her great grandson the day prior. Sebastian doesn’t appear to have any health issues. He has been with his owner for 3 years, and was given as a gift from the owner’s daughter. The family is unsure of his origins prior, as he was a stray when the owner’s daughter found him. Socialization Since with his current owner, Sebastian has only been around adults and children. He appears to be fearful and hides most of the day. He is described to be aggressive towards the children in the family, as evidenced by chasing them, attempting to bite and swat at them, and scracthing one of the children recently. Sebastian is not known to play with others, often keeping to himself and hiding when family are in the home. Behavior Sebastian bit his owner on June 20th, 2015 when she attempted to move him. Additionally, he scratched her grandson on 6/19/15 when he walked pass the bed where Sebastian was laying under. Sebastian does not allow handling and will swat, attempt to scratch, and bite when he is touched. Resultantly, the owner does not attempt to groom him. He was put into a carrier once before, where he attempted to flee. For A New Family to Know Sebastian is a very independent and suspicious cat, who keeps to himself most of the time. He is litter box trained, primarily with Scoop Away or Fresh Step using an uncovered litterbox. He is known to be a very clean cat. Sebastian eats both wet and dry food, both of Friskie’s brand. He prefers the Indoor formula for dry food and will only eat canned shredded wet food. He will never try to eat human food. Sebastian scratches on a vertical post made of carpet. He is usually sleeping under his owner’s bed but can be seen sleeping on the bed when nobody is around. Sebasitian would do well in a home without children, with an experienced owner. Behavior During Intake Sebastian presented with a tense body and whale eyes during the intake. Due to the owner’s reports of his fractictious behavior as well as his fearful presentation during the intake, counselors were unable to handle him.

06/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Sebastian became stiff and alert upon approach. When softly spoken to, his eyes wander around and then he focuses on the assessor again. Reaction to cage door opening: Sebastian remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Sebastian hisses at the assessor’s hand and begins to growl with his ears bent flat against his head. When attempting to pet him, he hisses and swats at the hand. As per previous owner, Sebastian has been around adults and children and appears to be fearful since he hides most of the day. Sebastian does not allow handling and will swat, attempt to scratch and bite when he is touched. He is very independent and keeps to himself most of the time. Behavior Determination: NH ONLY Sebastian is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, scratch, bite, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. He may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
