11/05/15 12:08 Salem sat in the middle of the carrier she was brought in. The top door was opened and Salem was picked up without resistance but she had a tense body. She was then placed on the counter. When on the counter, she was attempting to hide but allowed reposting for her photos and handling for collaring. She was then picked up and placed in a new carrier. When in the new carrier, she ran to the back of the carrier. She did not hiss, swat, or growl during the intake.

Salem was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Upon intake she allowed handling but was a little tense. Please note that Salem is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Reaction to assessor: Salem makes eye contact with the assessor but doesn’t come forward. Reaction when softly spoken to: Salem remains motionless with eyes focused on the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Salem is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Salem allows petting and starts to purr. She leans in for attention and is very affectionate. Reaction to being picked up: Salem is soft and relaxed when held. Behavior Determination: Average Salem interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
