08/31/15 15:57 Quartz was brought to BACC in a large dog crate. She was sitting inside the back of the dog crate. Quartz’s eyes were dilated and her body was tense. She did not move and the counselor was able to pick Quartz up and place her in a welcome den. When the counselor was moving her kittens, the kittens started to cry; this caused Quartz to become alert. She was moving inside her den looking for the kittens. The kittens were held up to her den; she sniffed the kittens and started to purr. When the kittens were out of sight, Quartz would meow.

Notes: Quartz was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment she was displaying friendly behavior, comes to the front of the kennel, interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Quartz is displaying behavior appropriate for a beginner cat owner. Reaction to assessor: does not come to front but looks at you, is calm, relaxed and friendly When spoken quietly: comes to the front of cage, soliciting, rubbing against front Reaction to door cage opening: remains soft and relaxed Reaction to touch: solicits petting and attention,purrs Try picking cat up: Quartz remains calm while being handled Placement Determination: Beginner
