9/1/15 10:54 Basic information: Popeye is a 5 yr. old neutered male domestic short hair mix. The owner surrendered Popeye because he is moving. Popeye has no health problems and the owner last taken her to a vet 6 months ago. Socialization: The owner states that around strangers Popeye is friendly and outgoing. Popeye has lived with 2 children ages 3 and 4 years old children he is gentle and loves to be play with them. Popeye has lived with another spayed female cat Olive Oil A1049920 and they play very well together. They have never been around dogs so the owner has no idea how Olive oil and Popeye would react around them. They have never bitten or scratched anyone. Behavior: Popeye likes to be bathed, does not mind having his nails trimmed, loves having his coat brushed, does not mind being picked up and he allows being placed in a cat carrier. For a new family to know: The owner describes Popeye as friendly, affectionate and playful cat with a medium activity level. Popeye has played plastic ball toys; he lives mostly indoors and sleeps on top of the fridge. In the home Popeye will follow the owner around and prefers to stay in same room as the owner. Popeye eats Friskies Seafood brand wet and dry cat food and is feed once a day. He is litter box trained and uses an uncovered litter box with clay litter. Popeye been given a scratching post made out of carpet and he and Olive Oil love to play with it. Behavior during intake: During intake Olive oil and Popeye were nervous with tenses bodies, they both allowed us to scan (-) put on collar, photographed and placed in cat kennels.

Update: 09/09/15 Reaction to assessor: Popeye does not come to the front, but looks at the assessor and is calm, relaxed, and friendly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Popeye comes to the front of the kennel to solicit attention – rubbing against the cage front and meowing. Reaction to cage door opening: Popeye remains soft and relaxed, and tries to head-butt the assessor’s hands. Reaction to touch: Popeye solicits petting and attention – rubbing against the assessor’s hands, meowing, purring, and kneading in place. Reaction to being picked up: Popeye snuggles against the assessor’s chest, gently kneads the assessor’s arms, and purrs. Behavior Determination: Beginner Popeye’s behavior has significantly improved throughout his stay in the care center. He interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat can go to a beginner home. Date: 09/04/15 Popeye’s former owner states that around strangers Popeye is friendly and outgoing. Popeye has lived with 2 children ages 3 and 4 years old children he is gentle and loves to be play with them. Popeye has lived with another spayed female cat Olive Oil and they play very well together. Also, describe him as friendly, affectionate and playful cat with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Popeye looks tense in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Popeye remains crouched down at the back of the cage, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Popeye seems hesitant with the touch but slowly began to engage. Then started to knead in place and slolwy head-butt the assessor’s hand: however, he remains cautious to sudden noises and retreats to the back. Placement determination: Experience Popeye tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
