Polar Bear came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Polar Bear was friendly and purring. Reaction to assessor: Polar Bear is at the front of the cage, soliciting attention. Reaction when softly spoken to: Polar Bear rubs against the cage front. Reaction to cage door opening: Polar Bear remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Polar Bear head-butts the assessor and begins to purr. Reaction to pick up: Polar Bear seems to enjoy this type of handling. Placement Determination: Beginner Polar Bear approaches the assessor, solicits petting and attention, and allows all handling. Polar Bear is exhibiting behavior suited to beginning cat parents.
