Reaction to approaching the cage: Hisses, growls at me. (3) Reaction to being spoken to: Hisses at me. (3) Reaction to door opening: Becomes stiff and alert. (3) Reaction to touch: Swats at me. (4) Reaction to being picked up: Did not attempt, fractious behavior. Notes: Pepper came into the shelter without a behavioral history in a home environment. At the time of the assessment, Pepper is displaying tense behavior. She avoids interaction with the assessor and becomes fractious when handled. Pepper is exhibiting behavior suited for experienced cat parents with no small children who can help Pepper become properly adjusted.
