As per the previous owners, Peire is usually tolerant around children but isn’t playful. He was respectful and gentle when he played with other cats. He was kept indoors and is litter box trained. He has a low activity level and was described as fearful, quiet, and independent. He struggles when being picked up and held and also becomes defensive when placed in a carrier. He usually stays hidden when the owner is home because he had a hard time adjusting to the new environment. Reaction to cage door opening: Peire charges by the opening. Reaction to touch: Peire does not allow touch; he strikes at the assessor’s hand and continues to hiss and growl. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Peire is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely uncomfortable in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling.
