***GONE 07/15/15***PURRFECT PATCHES HEALTHY SHELTER RETURN WITH GOOD BEHAVIOR RATING NEEDS RESCUE ANGEL! Sad sigh! Patches is a beautiful 8 year old girl who was returned to the shelter four years after she was adopted due to her former owner moving and not being able to take her along. Here is her original volunteer note: “My name is Patches, and I’m a 3 year old girl. I enjoy hanging out with my human friends; I stand right at the front of my cage and bow my head immediately to let them know that head rubs would be much appreciated! I’m working on improving the first impression I gave when I arrived at the shelter. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again—and be very cute while doing it! I lost my home due to allergies, and I’ve been waiting for a new, forever, sneeze-free home since 3/1. My owner says I love women, children, and even DOGS!!” So this lovely girl was betrayed not once but twice by people for whom she was a faithful feline friend. Poor Patches has the extra misfortune of getting dumped at the shelter at a time when it’s overflowing with adoptable cats and kittens. But this is definitely the kind of kitty worth our time to advocate for—calm, gentle, friendly and most of all used to being a beloved housepet. People have let her down so many times. Can you help right all of the wrongs that this great girl has endured? Please pull Patches online tonight or contact a NH rescue for assistance with transportation (available if you live within a few hours of NYC). Let’s do everything we can to move this precious pet to safe haven and prove that not all humans totally suck!

07/11/15 10:06 Basic Information Patches was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner, moving and being unable to bring Patches with him. Patches is a spayed, eight year old cat. Owner says as far as he knows Patches doesn’t have any injuries or health concerns, but has not been seen by the Vet since leaving ACC. When asked what he likes most about Patches owner chose that she is loving, and a quiet cat. Personality & Behavior Patches is described as shy and mellow with a low to medium activity level. Owner says she has lived with his two year old nephew and is tolerant and relaxed with him, Patches was also around a small dog and owner said she was tolerant and relaxed with him. Patches is said to be litter-box trained, and kept indoors only. Owner also described Patches as affectionate, and assertive when hungry. Owner says she hasn’t had issues of Patches biting or scratching anyone or another animal. Owner say she hasn’t attempted to bathe or trim Patches nails, and says Patches has to be held in place to be brushed. Owner says she enjoys being held, and is unbothered if disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know Patches used the clumping form of litter, and occasionally crystals with a hooded litter-box. Owner says Patches enjoys toy mice made of fur-like material. Patches used a vertical scratching post of rope material, and when home usually followed her owner around. Patches rode on a train before, and owner says she was fine with it. Owner says Patches eats Friskies brand wet & dry food, but will vomit if she ate too much dry food. Behavior during Intake Patches was nervous and alert during intake. She immediately began looking for an exit once let out of carrier. She sniffed my hand when extended, and tensed at first when petted. Despite nervousness Patches allowed handling and showed no signs of aggression during intake.

07/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to Assessor: Patches was calm and relaxed upon approach. When softly spoken to, she looks and slowly comes forward, but retreats to the back again and looks away from the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Patches remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Patches sniffs the assessor’s hand and head-butts, but starts to whine during the interaction. She continues to solicit attention by rubbing her body all over the assessor, but growls and hisses randomly. As per previous owner, Patches is described as shy and mellow with a low to medium activity level. She is relaxed and tolerant with the 2 year old and around a small dog. She has been kept indoors only, and is described as affectionate and assertive when she is hungry. She enjoys being held and is unbothered if disturbed while sleeping. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Initially Patches solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to whine, hiss, and growl at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Patches becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
