Behavior 2/22:
The former owner stated Onyx loves to play at night, enjoys petting, loves to cuddle and be picked up. He doesn’t hide is very social. Onyx has lived with a terrier mix. Also, he sleeps in the litter box, but he doesn’t use it. He goes to the bathroom on the floor behind the toilet / bath tub. The former owner places newspaper on the floor, behind the toilet. He’s done this since he was a kitten.
Reaction to assessor: Onyx immediately comes soliciting at the front of the cage.
Reaction to door opening: Onyx remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed, soliciting attention.
Reaction to touch: Onyx rubs on the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body.
Reaction to Toy or Novel Object: Shows no interest.
Reaction to Being Picked up: Allows the pick up but prefers to be down, on all paws.
Placement determination: Beginner
Onyx interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting.
This cat can go to a beginner home.

-Onyx’s former owner stated he is a moderately active indoor only cat who has been described as friendly, talkative, confident, assertive, mellow, and independent. He is also playful and he enjoys playing with balls, wand toys, and string. He is afraid during baths. Onyx struggles to get away, hisses, swats, and bites during nail trimmings.

REASON FOR SURRENDER
Due to a conflict with the children, owner could no longer keep Onyx. Onyx has bitten 4 of the children on several different occasions.
RELATIONSHIP
Onyx’s previous owner adopted him from a shelter about 1 year and 2 months ago. He is currently about 8 years old. He scanned positive for a microchip.
PEOPLE
He lived in a home with 2 adults and 5 children ages 6 months to 12 years. He is usually relaxed or affectionate around the children, but he has bitten 4 of them and many different occasions. His last bite was within the last 10 days. Owner stated that he loves being petted by the children and that if they try to play with him, he usually will just walk away.
OTHER ANIMALS
He has not lived with or interacted with any other animals.
PERSONALITY/HABITS
He is a moderately active indoor only cat who has been described as friendly, talkative, confident, assertive, mellow, and independent. He is also playful and he enjoys playing with balls, wand toys, and string. He is afraid during baths. He struggles to get away, hisses, swats, and bites during nail trimmings. He struggles to get away when you hold him or try to place him in a carrier. He isn’t bothered if you disturb him while he is sleeping. He loves being brushed and being petted, and owner stated that if you stop petting him, he usually will swat at you so that you continue to pet him. He likes to stay in a favorite spot when his family is home. He is afraid during car rides and usually meows, vomits, or defecates during them. He eats Science Diet wet and dry food and his favorite treats are Temptations and Greenies. He uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. He scratches on the furniture sometimes but also has 2 horizontal scratching post made of cardboard and carpet and a hanging one made of rough rope. He usually sleeps on the owner’s bed.
TRAINING
He is litter box trained and has not had any accidents.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE
During the intake, he was very affectionate. He had a soft body and he was meowing and purring, head butted my hand, and he was eager to be petted. He allowed handling and showed no signs of aggression.
