09/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Does not come to the front but remains neutral. (2) Reaction to being spoken to quietly: Does not come to the front but looks at you. (1) Reaction to cage door opening: Remains neutral. (2) Reaction to touch: Allows some petting, then hisses. (3) Notes: Niketa came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. At the time of the assessment, Niketa is initially allowing petting, but after a few soft passes over the head, she begins to growl at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Niketa becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. Niketa is exhibiting behavior suited to experienced cat parents with no children.
