07/13/15 13:35 Muffins is a 5 yrs. old female cat who is spayed and is described as friendly and aloof. Muffins is a stray who was rescued by his previous owner. Muffins appeared matted and nervous when she came into ACC today and will need to be scheduled for a veterinarian visit. Muffins has not been socialized with cats or dogs at this time. Muffins does not like to be around children and will swat at them on the occassions she has been around children. Muffins feels more comfortable around adults. Muffins is litter trained and is an indoor cat. Muffins has been described as a medium level activity cat. Muffins has also been described as playful friendly confident assertive affectionate quiet mellow aloof and independent. Muffins is affectionate on her terms. Muffins will swat at any attempt to groom her which includes baths trimming her nails and brushing her fur. Muffins does like to be held and carried around but on her terms and for alimited time period. Muffins does not have any issue with being placed in er carrier or disturbed from her sleep. Muffins will use clumping litter in an open litter box. Muffins likes to play with string and will engage in chasing games. Muffins like to scratch on scratching post mae out of wood and bark and will also scratch pillows. Muffin is nervous when transported in cars and meows often. Muffins likes to eat wet and dry food and chicken flavored treats. Muffins when in her home will follow her owner around and stay in the same room as them while also staying in her favorite spotslike the fridge bath tub and chair. Throughout the Intake process Muffins was nervous meowing often. Muffins did allow herself to be collared and fed by staff during the Intake process. Muffins became nervous when she was transferred into a new carrier and withdrew into the carrier. Muffins can be easy to handle when she is feeling well adjusted.

Reaction to cage door opening: Muffins remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Muffins repositions herself and lies on her other side, head-butts the assessor’s hand, starts to knead, and gives kisses during the interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Muffins becomes tense and may struggle due to her girth. As per previous owner, Muffins is described as friendly and aloof. She may not like to be around children, and may become defensive around them. She feels more comfortable around adults. She has a medium activity level and is described as playful, friendly, confident, assertive, affectionate, quiet, mellow, aloof, and independent. Muffins can be affectionate on her own terms. Behavior Determination: Average Muffins interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents. Although Muffins has displayed friendly and social behaviors with the behavior assessor in the shelter, due to her previous owner reporting that Muffins may become defensive around children, we suggest any home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adoption.
