MITTENS – A1046172
8-5-2015 Manhattan
***GONE 08/05/15***Poor MITTENS HAS GOT A RAW DEAL! Her previous owner has surrendered the 5 year old to the death-trap, ACC because she was going to the bathroom outside the litter box. Yet, SHE HAD NOT been seen by the veterinarian for this. Here are a few things to know before judgement is passed on this sweet kitty! There was a new dog in the house which, by the owners words, “scared MITTENS AND CAUSED HER TO RUN AND HIDE”! THAT ALONE WOULD KEEP A CAT FROM USING THE LITTER BOX. She would surely not want to go anywhere the dog was! ALSO,SHE MAY HAVE A UTI WHICH WOULD CAUSE THIS BEHAVIOR. If the litter box isn’t where a cat can easily get to or just is placed in an area that isn’t convenient to the cat that WOULD ALSO BE CAUSE FOR SUCH BEHAVIOR! PLEASE,GIVE HER A CHANCE. FIND OUT THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM IF THERE IS ONE. IT JUST MAY HAVE BEEN A REASON TO DUMP THE POOR KITTY!! CONTACT THE HELP DESK NOW AT [email protected] and give MITTENS A CHANCE!

07/31/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/31/15 20:51 Basic Information: Mittens is a 5 year old brown tabby. Her previous owner had her since she was a kitten; she got her from a person she met. Mittens was surrendered because she’s been using the bathroom out of the litter box however previous owner also stated she has never been seen by a vet. The two things her previous owner liked most about her is that she is mellow and sometimes she comes up to her and rolls over on her belly and purrs. Social Life & Personality: Around children Mitten is relaxed and playful and plays gently. She has been around shit tzu’s and while around them she is fearful. Mitten’s is litter box trained. She was kept indoors only and has a low activity level. She can be described as playful, shy, mellow, friendly, fearful, affectionate, quiet and independent. Behavior Issues: For the past 7 months Mittens has been defecating and urinating outside of her litter box. Her previous owner stated she did not take her to a vet for this issue. She also stated that there is a new dog in the home that has been there for a year but recently started to chase and scare Mittens. She has been having litter box problems a few times a week. For a New Family to Know: Mittens used wheat natural litter in a hooded litter box. She likes to play with string and scratches on a vertical scratching post made out of smooth wood. When her previous owner was home Mittens would tend to be in her favorite spot. When she played she was gentle. In car rides she sleeps/ relaxes. She ate dry Science Diet and loved tuna as a treat. At night she slept in a bed that was kept up high. Behavior during Intake: Mittens was quiet. She allowed me to pick her up and rub her while she was in her crate. While she was out of her crate she was crouched down and didnt approach extended hand.

Reaction to assessor: Mittens looks tense in her cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Mittens remains crouched down in her litter box, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Mittens hisses at the assessor’s hand, but accepts the stroke and shows some interest however, she becomes hesitant with the touch and stiffense in place. Placement determination: Experience / no child Mittens tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
