*** GONE 07/16/15 *** MITTENS CERTAINLY HAS A BIGGER “PERSONAL PROBLEM” THAN HIS FORMER OWNER TONITE…….His owner is not scheduled to die tomorrow, but MITTENS is…..MITTENS has a NEW HOPE rating because his former world filled with cats and kids is gone…MITTENS is “playful, friendly and talkative”….he is just out of his element here. PLEASE HELP FIND MITTENS A HOME WHERE HE CAN BE HAPPY AGAIN…..AT TWO YEARS OLD HE HAS A LONG LIFE AHEAD, IF SOMEONE WILL STEP UP…

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/12/2015 from NY 11212, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

07/12/15 19:32 Mittens is a gray and white male cat who is approxiamtely 2 yrs. old and is not neutered. Mittens appears to be in good health but will need to visit with a veterinarian as soon as possible. Mittens was given to his previous owner as a gift two years ago and is described as friendly and well meaning. Mittens is described as being very affectionate friendly tolerant and respectful of young children and pre-teens as well. Mittens wil play gently with them and cause no harm. Mittens has not been socialized with other cats and when confronted with a dog here at ACC became aggressive growling and hissing at the dog. Mittens is an indoor cat who is litter trained. Mittens has been described as playful friendly talkative confident assertive affectionate shy quiet mellow aloof and independent at various times. Mittens will struggle when given a bath becoming reactive by scratching at the person who is trying to bath him. Mittens has never had his nails trimmed at all. Mittens likes to have his fur brushed and is not bothered by being held placed in a carrier or disturbed while he is sleeping. Mittens will use clay litter in an uncovered litter box . Mittens likes to use a horizontal scratching post made out of carpet but will sometimes scratch the house furniture as well. Mittens plays with balls wand catnip stuffed toys string and engages in chasing games. Mittens becomes nervous when riding in cars meowing often. Mittens eats Meow Mix dry food once a day and likes to snack on meat flavored treats. Mittens likes to sleep on blankets or by the children in the house. When in the home Mittens will follow you around and stay in the same room as you but will stay hidden from strangers until he is comfortable. During the Intak process Mittens was calm and well behaved for the most part. Mittens allowed himself to be transferred into a new carrier but became nervous when it was time to collar and photograph him. Mittens allowed himself to be photographed in his carrier but would not allow himself to be collared retreating into his carrier. Mittens when calm and feeling well adjusted is friendly and open cat.

Owner Profile: Mittens was bought into the care center due to her previous owner moving to an area that does not allow pets. Mittens is described as being very affectionate and friendly. Mittens is tolerant and respectful of young children. Mittens will play gently with them and cause no harm. Mittens behavior towards other animals remains unknown. Mittens is an indoor cat who is litter trained. Mittens has been described as playful, friendly, talkative, confident, assertive, affectionate, shy, quiet, mellow, aloof and independent at various times. Notes: Mittens seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment he was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful and currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
