***SAFE 07/09/15***ADOPTED AS A KITTEN, RETURNED TO ACC WHEN HER FORMER FAMILY WERE EVICTED! MISTY’S former family won’t be killed for being homeless, but this sweet girl will. She lived with and got along children, and was noted to be playful-she’s only a little over of a year. MISTY GOT A NEW HOPE RATING THAT IS TOTALLY UNFAIR BECAUSE SHE WAS AFRAID AT ACC! This is not uncommon, the hissing is because she’s terrified, but in time, in a calm environment she would be just fine. She needs someone willing to foster her, or outright adopt her. MISTY has the round face common to a British Shorthair, she’s got a ‘blue’ coat, and this dear little girl is blue. Cats manifest fear as growling and hissing, defensive mechanisms, and remember, in her previous home MISTY lived with little children. MISTY would do very well just to be with someone willing to give her a little time to relax and feel safe. She won’t get it from the ACC-will she get it from you? Please offer to foster or adopt this little blue bonnet today! It will save her life!!!!

06/30/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/30/15 15:57 BASIC INFO Misty was originally found as a stray in a building and brought to ACC 1.5 years ago. Her family adopted her from ACC 1.5 years ago and surrendered her because they were evicted. SOCIALIZATION Misty is shy with new people and hides when guests come over. She lived with a 13 year old child and was relaxed, affectionate, and tolerant with her but hid from a 3 year old family member that visited. Misty plays exuberantly with adults and older children. She hasn’t bit/scratched anyone and hasn’t been around other animals. BEHAVIOR Misty is nervous in the car. She doesn’t mind being brushed or woken up. She’s nervous during nails trims. She allows her family to hold her for a minute and then jumps down. She struggled when put into a box. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Misty’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, quiet, and medium energy. She sometimes follows her family around and sits on their laps. She likes to run around and plays with balls, string, wand toys, and bottle caps. Misty lived inside and slept on a blanket. She ate dry and wet Fancy Feast food and enjoyed cat treats. She’s littertrained and doesn’t have accidents. She’s used to an uncovered litterbox with clumping litter. Misty scratches a horizontal carpeted cat scratcher in addition to the couch. INTAKE Misty was a little tense with wide eyes but allowed me to pick her up, position her for pictures, scan her (+, should trace to owner), collar her, and put her in a kennel. She lied down and looked around while on the counter. She was easy to handle and didn’t resist/retreat/vocalize.

07/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Misty was calm and relaxed upon approach. When softly spoken to, she hisses at the assessor and stares. Reaction to cage door opening: Misty becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Misty hisses at the assessor’s hand and starts to growl. She does not allow touch; she swats at the hand and continues to growl. As per previous owner, Misty is shy with new people and hides when guests come over the house. She is relaxed, affectionate, and tolerant with the child she lived with, but hid from other children that come to visit. She plays exuberantly with adults and older children. She allows the family to hold her briefly, and then jumps down. They describe her as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, quiet, and medium energy. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Misty is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
