*** SAFE 04/25/15 **** NEW FURNITURE TRUMPS MAXIE!! MAXIE’S owners never gave her a scratching post and when they decided to get new furniture they casually discarded her at the ACC…..MAXIE has quite a lot to recommend her…..She has lived with children, dogs and another cat and gotten along with everybody. She is just 5 years old and healthy except for the lovely cold that the ACC gave her…THIS CAT IS A PRIZE!! 04/09/15 23:05 NAME Maxie REASON FOR SURRENDER Owners are getting new furniture and no longer wish to keep Maxie. RELATIONSHIP Maxie’s previous owner bought her from a pet store about 5 years ago. She is currently about 5 years old. She scanned negative for a microchip. PEOPLE She lives in a home with 3 adults and 4 children ages 11-18. She is usually relaxed or affectionate around them, and when she plays with them, she is usually gentle. She is also gentle when she plays with her owner. She has not bitten or scratched anyone. OTHER ANIMALS She lives in a home with one other cat, her daughter, and she is usually relaxed or affectionate around her. When she plays with her, she is usually gentle. She also lives with 2 dogs and she is usually respectful around them. She has not bitten or scratched any other animals. PERSONALITY She is a very active indoor only cat who has been described as playful, friendly, confident, shy when she first meets you, affectionate, quiet, and independent. She enjoys playing with wand toys and laser pointers. She is afraid during baths. She doesn’t like having her nails trimmed, being held, or placed in a carrier, and she usually struggles to get away. She enjoys being brushed and petted. She is friendly or isn’t bothered if you disturb her while she is sleeping. She likes to follow the children around when they are home. She eats 9Lives wet and dry food. She uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. She usually sleeps on one of the children’s’ beds. She does scratch on the furniture, but it should be noted that she doesn’t have a scratching pot or any other object to scratch on. TRAINING She is litter box trained and she rarely has accidents. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE She was nervous during intake; stiff body, dilated pupils, and lip licking. She allowed handling and showed no signs of aggression.

Maxie came to our shelter as an owner surrender on 4/9/15. I was reported by the previous owner that Maxie has lived with both adults and children from ages 11 – 18. She was described as usually relaxed and affectionate around them, and plays gently with them. Maxie has also lived with another cat and two dogs. Around the cat the previous owner said that she was usually relaxed and affection, and was respectful toward the dogs. Upon intake Maxie was nervous with stiff body language, and was lip licking, but allowed all handling without displaying signs of aggression. The behavior department believes that Maxie should go to an Experienced home who will give her time to adjust to her environment and family. Reaction to assessor: Continues to hide (was hiding when assessor approached) (3) When spoken to quietly: Continues to hide (3) Reaction to cage door opening: Becomes stiff, alert (3) Reaction to touch: Moves away from being touched. (3)
