***SAFE 08/04/15*** PERFECTLY HEALTHY RARE BENGAL BOY, DUMPED FOR NEW BABY, WILL NOW DIE DUE TO HIS FEAR – PLEASE GRANT MAIKO A DEATH ROW PARDON!!! “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here” might as well be the label of the intake photo of MAIKO, a stunning 6-year-old rare BENGAL boy, who was dumped into the kill-happy ACC due to NEW BABY. At home, Maiko was PURRfect: “Maiko is neutered and his previous owners received him from craigslist when he was 1 year old and has had him for 5 years. The thing his owner liked most was that he acts like a dog. Maiko is litter box trained, and has been kept mostly indoors. He has a high activity level and can be described as playful, confident, assertive, talkative, and independent. Maiko enjoys having his coat brushed. He liked to play with balls and string. When home he likes to be in his favorite spot. When he plays he is exuberant.” But this darling, social boy is TERRIFIED in the scary shelter, so he acted DEFENSIVELY during his behavior test. The ACC PUNISHED this excellent cat with New Hope Only and fast-tracked poor Maiko to the noon kill list for tomorrow, despite the fact that he’s PERFECTLY HEALTHY! Please save the life of this stunning Bengal boy! Start RIGHT NOW to apply to foster or adopt betrayed Bengal boy MAIKO from the approved New Hope rescue groups! If you can’t save MAIKO yourself, please SHARE his sad story and PLEDGE for his rescue!

07/21/15 20:27 Basic Information: Maiko is a 6 year old Bangle cat who was brought in because he bit his owner. The owners are having a new baby and don’t want an animal around who may bite. Maiko is neutered and his previous owners received him from craigslist when he was 1 year old and has had him for 5 years. The thing his owner liked most was that he acts like a dog. Social Life &Personality: Maiko is litter box trained, and has been kept mostly indoors. He has a high activity level and can be described as playful, confident, assertive, talkative, and independent. Behavior Issues: Maiko enjoys having his coat brushed. When he is placed in a carrier or held he struggles. If he is disturbed while sleeping he isn’t bothered. For a New Family to Know: Maiko used clumping cat litter in a hooded litter box. He liked to play with balls and string. He used a carpet material vertical scratching post. When home he like to be in his favorite spot. When he plays he is exuberant but somewhat rough. When riding in a car he meows. He eats dry Purina cat chow, and sleeps anywhere. Behavior during Intake: Maiko was growling and hissing and tried to attack staff through his crate door. We placed towels over his crate so that he couldn’t see us but he still growled, hissed and tried to attack when he heard us.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Maiko was inside his hidey box upon approach. He comes out of his box and stiffly walks to the front of the cage when softly spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Maiko becomes alert and backs away from the opening. Reaction to touch: Maiko starts to growl and doesn’t allow touch; he hisses and swats at the hand. He continues to growl afterwards and lip licks. As per previous owner, Maiko has been kept mostly indoors and is litter box trained. He has a high activity level and is described as playful, confident, assertive, talkative, and independent. He enjoys having his coat brushed, but struggles when held or being placed in a carrier. He plays exuberantly and somewhat rough. He was brought in for biting his owner and it was reported that he bit before unprovoked. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Maiko is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, scratch, bite, and does not currently tolerate all petting or handling. He may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed.
