Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Layla’s previous owner states that she is friendly and outgoing around strangers but has never been around children. Around adults, she is gentle and loves to play. She has never been around other animals so her behavior around them is unknown. She has a medium activity level and was described as a playful and friendly cat. At home she will usually stay in the same room as her owner and greet people at the door. Reaction to assessor: Layla does not come to the front, but remains neutral in her cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Layla does not look at the assessor and seems wary of the environment. Reaction to cage door opening: Layla becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Layla slowly points her nose out to sniff the assessor’s hand, but swats and hisses when petting was attempted. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Layla is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
