KARINA – A1044510
7-24-2015 Manhattan
***GONE 07/24/15***BEAUTIFUL KARINA NEEDS LOTS OF TLC AND YOU! Karina stands in her intake photograph, shell-shocked and overwhelmed. Life has been unkind to this lovely lady for a long time; humans have been unkind to her. Karina is 9 years old and it’s easy to imagine her as a fat little glossy kitten, but once imagination moves forward into those adult years, you can see the slights begin to pile up. The humans who never had enough time; the humans who didn’t keep up with veterinary care; the humans who finally threw her away like broken glass. Karina doesn’t deserve to live as she has been, nor does she deserve to die as she will, unless she gets out of the ACC. Karina is a sweet and mature girl who should have plenty of happy years ahead, a gem who just needs some TLC. Please find that miracle for beautiful Karina tonight.

07/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/18/15 11:06 Karina A1044510 is an older female golden brown and white medium haired feline who was found in the finder’s residence lobby. The finder believes her owner passed away but wasn’t 100% if she was indeed their cat. The finder kept her in their home for a week in hopes someone would reclaim her. They stated Karina loves to eat, be petted & held. Karina is very thin and she didn’t use the litter box that was at her disposal, she “went” outside of the litter box. During intake Karina appeared dull and depressed and didn’t resist or vocalize in any way during intake. Karina allowed all handling. She allowed us to scan (-), collar her and take her pictures, including positioning her during the photo session.

07/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Karina came into the care center as a friendly stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. After a week in the finder’s home, she was described as affectionate. Her finder also reports that she urinated outside the litterbox while in her home. We are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior, or if there may be a medical condition contributing to this behavior. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a different home environment, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. We also recommend that Karina be provided with numerous litterboxes throughout the house as she adjusts to his/her new living space. The extra boxes can be removed as she learns the space and successfully defecates in her main litterbox(es). Reaction to assessor: Karina walks to the front of the cage when the assessor approaches. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Karina allows all petting and solicits attention by leaning into the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: Experience Karina interacts with the Assessor, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting, and in terms of sociability appears approriate for an adopter with an average amount of cat experience. However, due to her reported possible litterbox issues/inapprorpriate elimination, we recommend an experienced adopter comfortable with managing this behavior.
