07/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Irwin was resting in his cage upon approach. He does not wake when softly spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Irwin remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Irwin becomes alert and looks around during petting, but seems indifferent to touch; he closes his eyes again and remains in place for petting without much of a reaction. Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. Irwin was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was easy to handle upon intake and allowed petting during his initial medical exam, but becomes more reactive to more extensive handling. It is difficult to determine at this point how much of that reaction may be due to his medical condition. Behavior Determination: Experience Irwin tolerates attention and petting during the time of his behavior evaluation, however, due to his reaction to handling during the medical exam and his willingness to strike out to avoid handling in certain situations, we feel that placement with experienced cat adopters is in Irwin’s best interest. Please note that his behavior may change once his medical condition is addressed.
