IGLOO – A1043315
7-13-2015 Manhattan
*** GONE 07/13/15 *** HANDSOME IGLOO IS ONLY A 5 MONTH OLD KITTEN WHO IS AFRAID IN THE SHELTER AND THE ACC IS KILLING HIM AT NOON EVEN THOUGH HE IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY! IGLOO is an adorable tuxie who was found and whisked away to the shelter. He is extremely afraid and was cowering when the assessor tried to pet him with his plastic fake hand! So this young kitten was punished with a NEW HOPE rating and must be pulled by a rescue by NOON Monday or he will be killed. How is this fair? IF YOU CAN SAVE THIS TIMID CREATURE WHO WAS NOT AGGRESSIVE, JUST SCARED, PLEASE CONTACT A RESCUE TO PULL HIM TO SAFETY. REMEMBER NEW HOPE RATINGS ONLY MEASURE THE FEAR A CAT HAS IN THE SHELTER – NOT HOW HE WILL ACT IN A HOME!!!

07/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Igloo lowers his head behind his litter box upon approach. When softly spoken to, his ears bend sideways and he focuses on the assessor with squinty eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Igloo remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Igloo hisses at the assessor’s hand and lowers his entire body so it’s flat on the ground. His ears bend flat and he seems very uncomfortable with petting. Note: Igloo was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was fearful around the finder, and was also tense during intake. He has tried to struggle during different interactions, and may become defensive during handling. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Igloo is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate all petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
