08/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Houdini was resting upon approach. She rolls onto her back and rubs her cheeks onto her bedding when softly spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Houdini remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Houdini head-butts the assessor’s hand, starts to knead, and begins to purr. Reaction to being picked up: Houdini allows handling, but whines and prefers to be on all her paws. She continued to allow petting afterwards. Note: Houdini was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was shy and tried to hide upon intake. Because she was so nervous, she was difficult to handle during her initial medical exam and tried to strike out. She seems to have acclimated well into the care center environment, and remains social with the behavior assessor. Please note that she can be vocal while she is eating and makes “nom nom” noises that may sound like she’s growling. The assessor was still able to pet her while she ate, and she does not display any defensive behaviors. Behavior Determination: Average Houdini interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
