11/23/15 13:18 Basic Information: Garnet is a 1 year old spayed female who was found as a stray when he was a kitten. She had to be surrendered because of owner’s allergies. She has no known injuries or health problems and the thing her owner liked most about her was she is friendly. Social Life and Personality: Around children Garnet is affectionate and gentle when she plays. Around other cats she is affectionate and respectful. Around dogs she is relaxed affectionate and slept with her previous owner’s pit bull at night. She is litter box trained and was kept indoors only. She has a medium activity level and can be described as playful, shy, mellow, and affectionate. Behavior: Garnet has never bitten a person or animal while with her previous owner. Her previous owner has never attempted to bathe her, trim her nails or brush her coat. She enjoys being picked up. She struggles and swats if she is placed in a carrier. She also isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Garnet used clumping cat litter in an uncovered litter box. She liked to play with chasing toys and laser lights. She used a vertical scratching post made of carpet to scratch on. When she was home she would tend to be in her favorite spot under a table. In car rides she is relaxed. She ate both wet and dry Meow Mix and at night she slept under her previous owner’s bed. Behavior during intake: Garnet allowed staff to collar her, pet her and take pictures. Her body was crouched and tense but showed no signs of aggression.

Reaction to assessor: Garnet looks tense in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Garnet remains crouched position, hiding under cage bedding. Reaction to touch: Garnet accepts the stroke, but shows no interest to the touch and remains cautious in place. Placement determination: Experience Garnet tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
