11/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gabby Goo’s previous owner kept her four three months and has limited information about her, but they reported that she has not lived with any children or other animals. She was kept mostly indoors, but would sometimes go out of the house and come back a day later. She does not like baths, but will normally tolerate it if the water is not too high. She is also tolerant of nail trims and sits through them. She enjoys being held and hasn’t had any incidents with placing her in a carrier. Reaction to assessor: Gabby Goo was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Gabby Goo looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Gabby Goo remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Gabby Goo was hesitant of the assessor’s hand, but slowly attempts to sniff it. She allows petting on her head and back, but will lift her paw up and push the hand away when she has had enough. No further reaction was displayed. Reaction to being picked up: Gabby Goo becomes tense (possibly due to girth). Gabby Goo’s previous owners report that she was litter box trained, but has been displaying litter box avoidance and has been eliminating outside the litter box in random places in the home for the past month. We are unaware if any modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, staff has reported seeing her use her litter box during her stay in the care center. We still recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Experience Gabby Goo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
