07/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Fluffy has lived with children and is reported to be relaxed and affectionate. His previous owners describe him as “playful, confident, friendly, aloof, talkative, affectionate, and independent.” His owners also note that he may scratch on furniture (availablility of appropriate scratching posts in the home is not known), and also that he has been eliminating outside the litterbox for the last few months. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. This may also be an age-related behavioral development. We recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. Fluffy was fearful at the time of intake, and has not allowed handling during any medical examinations in the care center. He allowed a minimum of touch during his behavior evaluation. Reaction to assessor: Fluffy is vocalizing and walks to the front of the cage as the assessor approaches. He allows the assessor to pet him gently through the cage bars. Reaction to cage door opening: Fluffy becomes a bit tense. Reaction to touch: Fluffy hisses when the assessor reaches for him with the cage door open. The evaluation is ended at this point. Placement determination: Experienced home without children While Fluffy has not tolerated much human interaction in the care center, his previous owners report him to be an affectionate and social cat at home. We advise that Fluffy may have a long adjustment period to a new home and new family, given his age, but we feel that experienced adopters and a home without children is appropriate at this time.
