EMMA – A1057990
Gone 11-20-2015 Manhattan
***GONE 11/20/15*** EMMA is another victim of being surrendered due to “personal problems”. A REASON without really being a reason just to DUMP a cat and wipe their conscious clean! The almost 2 year old is already SPAYED and is ready to go. She may have a petting induced aggression which causes her to swat when pet. She’s going to need a new owner that is familiar with this kind of behavior arousal. But she needs someone NOW,to FOSTER or ADOPT her! She can be helped by experience and loving people… But she can’t be helped if she stays in this shelter. She may not make it to tomorrow!

11/15/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/15/15 14:15 Basic Information Emma was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner having personal problems. Owner has had Emma since she was a small kitten after receiving her form a friend. When asked what she likes most about it owner chose how friendly she is. Personality & Behavior Emma is described as playful, confident, and affectionate with a medium activity level. Emma was kept indoors only and is said to be litter-box trained. According to owner there have been no past incidents of Emma biting anyone or another animal. During baths, Emma usually attempts to run and has to be held in place. Emma is said to love being brushed, and doesn’t mind being picked up and placed in a carrier. For a New Family to Know Emma was used to using the clumping form of litter and has used numerous litter-boxes. Emma scratched on client’s sofa due to not having a scratching post, and usually followed owner when home. Emma meows during car rides, and was fed both wet and dry food. Behavior during Intake Emma was initially relaxed during intake. She immediately came out of carrier when summoned, and accepted food. Emma’s body tensed but soon relaxed when touched. Emma became uncomfortable during collaring. She first jumped away during each attempt, and on the last attempt she turned her head towards counselor’s fingers. When placing Emma back inside of carrier she inserted her body but left her tail out. When counselor attempted to place her tail inside she began hissing and growling and swatted at carrier door.

11/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Emma’s former owner described her as playful, confident, and affectionate with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Emma looks neutral in her cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Emma stands up in place, relaxed body posture, meowing attention. Reaction to touch: Emma accepts the stroke then began to head-butt the assessor’s hand, but after a few strokes, she starts to meow whine in place and gentle nip, while she continues to solicit. Placement determination: Experience / no child Initially Emma solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to meow whine and nip at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Emma becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
