ELLIE – A1036202
8-18-2015 Manhattan
*SAFE 08/18/15- Ellie came in as an owner surrender and isn’t doing so well now that she realizes she’s not home anymore. Such a strange strange world it is for this little girl. She is still young full with so much life and adventure ahead of her. It would be sad to not have her experience those with you. She needs a bit more time and getting used to her new life. She’s not had to much interactions with strangers so she’ll have to slowly learn that she can trust people. Come show this girl some love and come meet her at MACC today!
Another staff member writes: Meet Ellie! Ellie is a friendly girl, but is having a difficult time adjusting to the care center environment. According to her previous owner, she is a loving and affectionate lap cat. She would do best in an Experienced home without children though, as she needs some time to adjust to her new home. Please pull Ellie from MACC today!!
A volunteer writes: Little Ellie is waiting for you to notice what a great friend she will be: there, but not in your hair. She seems cautious at first, crouching low but pleading with her eyes for a little affection. Once you pet her, she responds with a deep and satisfying purr. She will wriggle her head in delight against your hand and play. She also has her independent streak, and when she’s had enough attention, she’ll let you know and you can each hang out in your own space. If you’re a working gal or man, Ellie might be the one for you as she will be able to entertain herself while you’re away, and chill with you after your long day.

BEHAVIOR:
Ellie has mostly been socialized with family within the home, as the former owner reported that she has not been around strangers or children. When introduced to new family members, Ellie will hide at first but eventually warms up to them. The owner described her as a gentle player, oftentimes remaining relaxed while in the presence of her owner and family.
Reaction to assessor: Ellie looks neutral in her cage when approached by the assessor.
Reaction to door opening: Ellie remains lying down on her cag her bedding, alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to touch: Ellie hisses at first then low growls, but accepts the stroke and began to eye wander and lip lick in place.
Placement determination: Experience / no child
Ellie tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
PROFILE:
Basic Information
Ellie is a black and white domestic short haired cat who is approximately 3 years old. The owner explained that they received her as a gift from a friend, whom they reported got her from a rescue. The owner was unable to identify what rescue but stated that she received her vaccinations there but has not been to the vet since she was a kitten. Owner reported that they was served a court order to get rid of the extra amount of pets not allowed under the circumstances of his lease.
Socialization
Ellie has mostly been socialized with family within the home, as the owner reported that she has not been around strangers or children. When introduced to new family members, Ellie will hide at first but eventually warms up to them. The owner described her as a gentle player, oftentimes remaining relaxed while in the presence of her owner and family. The owner reports that Ellie has never bitten or scratched any person or other animal.
Behavior
Ellie has only had one litterbox accident reported by the owner, which was a few months ago. The owner stated that because the litterbox was not cleaned, Ellie defacated outside of the box. They said she has not done this since.
For A New Family to Know
Ellie is described as an affectionate, talkative, and lovable cat. When at home with her family, she will follow her owner and sit on their lap. She sleeps in her owner’s bed. Her activity level is medium, and is usually gently playful with people. Ellie loves to be pet and enjoys playing with catnip toys as well. She has been raised as an indoors cat only, being littertrained in the home primarily with an uncovered litterbox using Scoop Away clumping litter. The owner reported not training Ellie to scratch on specific items, therefore, Ellie mostly scratches on furniture in the home. Ellie eats both wet and dry food as well as human food, and will often pick at her owner’s food while he is eating. She also loves Temptations treats. Ellie would do well in a home where she can be given moderate attention and affection while allowing time to relax in the presence of her owner.
Behavior During the Intake
Ellie was cooperative during the intake. She remained in a carrier with her litter of kittens (three total) and was calm throughout the intake process. She was talkative, often chriping in response to her owner communicating with her. Ellie also allowed all handling by counselor, presenting with a loose body.
